Who am I?

I am an extremely driven, adventurous, and passionate person. Passionate about many things — caring for our earth and low-waste living, educating about homesteading and herbalism, traveling and exploring as many places as possible, creating purposeful content (through my writing and design work), and, ultimately, going through life with complete open-mindedness and a-whole-lotta heart.

I have a BFA degree in Graphic Design with a focus in Environmental Studies. After traveling and working in a variety of places across the country and world, I have planted roots in the Driftless Region in rural SW Wisconsin and established myself as a contract Social Media Strategist, Creative Consultant, and Freelance Designer. I strive to use my skills in graphic design, social media, marketing, and community outreach to work for smaller, local organizations that I believe in and to raise awareness of what each and every one of us can do to BE THE CHANGE... To help make the world a better, more beautiful, and more thoughtful place.

I am always ready for and excited to embrace the next season of my life, and find out what new opportunities are ahead of me! LIFE IS CHANGE. LIFE IS GROWTH. LIFE IS LEARNING. LIFE IS ART.

Where did the name Linden + Fern come from?

The name Lynsey (“Lindsey”) actually means Island of Linden Trees, and I just so happened to have grown up on Linden Street! After graduating from college, I moved from Decorah, Iowa to the other side of the world — to work and travel in New Zealand. There, I had the incredible opportunity to learn about the Maori people and culture. In their culture, the fern frond represents new life and growth - which, not surprisingly, my time there was full of! I then moved to Portland, Oregon for nearly seven years — another place overflowing with ferns (+ personal growth for me). 😉🌿

In the past few years, through the pandemic and meeting my now-husband, I made my way back to the Midwest to reconnect with my roots in the Driftless Region! What’s next on this journey called LIFE?!

What is this website all about?

I would like this website to be a place where people can slow down, take a pause, and learn how to take better care of themselves, their families/local communities, and the world around them! Specifically, as a resource to help educate about low-waste living, homesteading, and herbalism. I want this platform to empower more people to feel more CAPABLE of following their heart and their own unique path.

On L+F, I will offer easy-to-follow guides, personal (and sometimes vulnerable) blog posts, a variety of my published articles, a few email updates, and, hopefully, more than enough motivation and inspiration along the way!
